Aug 27, 2009
United Association National Apprenticeship Competition
Larry Slaney, Director of Canadian Training for the United Association recently announced that Local 488 and the Edmonton Pipe Trades in Alberta have been assigned to host the 2010 UA National Apprenticeship Competition.
This national event is the final part in a series of UA regional apprentice competitions to be held for the Western, Central and Eastern regions of Canada. Candidates will be drawn from across Canada to compete in the national event once they qualify in the regional events, to produce the best apprentices in their respective trades to compete in Edmonton. All five major areas of the UA pipe trades will be represented including; Steamfitter-Pipefitter, Plumber, Refrigeration Mechanic, Sprinkler Systems Installer, and Welder.
These competitions are part of the UA’s commitment towards lifelong learning and training for its members. Showcasing the talents of our apprentices to the industry and recognizing their skills is an integral component of our Standard for Excellence program.
This is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the skills of UA apprentices from across Canada and to reinforce the message that UA trades people are truly the best trained workers in the piping industry in North America.
All local Unions will be sent a full Competition package in the near future with details for the upcoming events at Local 488.
