Aug 7-13, 2010
UA INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAM in ANN ARBOR
UA Canada has plans for three new classes for this year with specific content for Canadian Instructors. They are listed below and will be available for the 2010 program. Please make an effort to support the programs that we have planned by sending your instructors to these certification courses for training in new areas of expertise that are required by our industry.
1. CANADIAN FOREMAN CERTIFICATION
This 40 hour course is designed to certify members as a Canadian Foreman Certification Instructor. The program provides the information and ability to present the material to enable their Journeypersons the necessary entry level training required to move into supervisory roles in the Union construction industry. This course will provide the tools for the instructors to prepare their students for the transition to leadership roles and initial supervisory skills needed to complete the requirements of the position. A computer based exam will be administered at the end of the course and participants who successfully complete the course will receive certification as a "Canadian Foreman Certification Instructor" issued through the national Canadian Office of the National Association of Union Schools and Colleges (NAUSC).
NOTE: Required text for this course is the UA Foreman Training Manual and the Canadian Foreman Certification Instructor's Guide.
2. CANADIAN GREEN CONSTRUCTION 101
The UA Canada Green Construction 101 40 hour course will provide the information required for Instructors to prepare Tradespersons/workers with the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to participate fully in Green/Sustainable Construction projects in Canada. This will include how to identify critical practices while working on sustainable project sites and the project management process for Green Construction as they apply to Foremen and Supervisory personnel. Roles and Responsibilities of the Green Construction Worker will be identified as well for the Commercial, Institutional, and Residential construction sectors. The Integrated Green Project Team concept will be studied throughout the course to enable workers to navigate within sustainable project requirements, and will include concepts of the Green Building Standards rating system. The course will serve as a knowledge foundation upon which to continue the necessary education process for participants to move to the next level of training and to fulfill the prerequisites to qualify to write LEED Green Associate Professional for Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) credentials.
Required Texts: Specialty Manuals will be provided for the program
3.CANADIAN STEAMFITTER RED SEAL PROGRAM

Instructors that take this course should have experience in the Steamfitter trade in order to meet the requirements for delivery of this course and successfully challenging the examination. The prerequisite for the members to challenge the Red Seal examination as required by the Canadian government is proven hours worked in the Steamfitting/Pipefitting field.
