Ppl became way too soft if simple question “where are you from” considered rude and offensive. Just saying

Look. I’ve lived in Canada my entire life, and visited every major city while working as a flight attendant. I’m not going to argue if people do or don’t do this. People do rude shit all the time. This is a thread with “tips for newcomers”. I’m not going to advise newcomers to do something that the majority of Canadians consider rude. It’s like swearing in the office. Some people do it, sure. But not recommended and not going to help you make friends.

For 22 years in Canada I’m constantly hearing “where you from” “where is your accent from” etc from Canadians that were born here. So I assume it’s totally normal
