Myroslav Shkandrij is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Manitoba, where he taught Slavic studies until 2019. He has also held positions at the University of Calgary, the University of Ottawa, and at Columbia University. He has published on Ukrainian and Russian literature, art and history. The focus of his research has been on cultural debates in Ukraine, Russian imperial discourse, avant-garde art, Jews in Ukrainian literature, Ukrainian nationalism, and WW2. His most recent books are In the Maelstrom: The Waffen-SS ‘Galicia’ Division and its Legacy(2023), Revolutionary Ukraine 1917-2017: Flashpoints in History and Contemporary Memory Wars (2020) and Avant-garde Art in Ukraine: Contested Memory, 1910-1930 (2019).
