Live in home share provider (Kensington Cedar Cottage - beautiful home approx knight and 23rd)
compensation: Free rent, food plus an approximate $1500 a month tax free stipened employment type: contract non-profit organization
Live in care giver, great opportunity.
Two young adults with mild disabilities (one young man, age 23, and one young woman, age 25) who have chosen to live as room-mates (with a beautiful young dog) in their own rental suite seek a caring live-in caregiver home-share provider who will support their independent living.
The successful applicant will enter into an agreement with the young adults’ support societies (micro-boards that are run by their families) and move into the existing new 3 bedroom furnished home with them as a co-occupant / room-mate.
By living as their room-mate and providing live-in supports, you will earn your entire rent, food and household expenses (all utilities, wireless, Netflix, Prime, Crave, Disney+ accounts) in addition to a tax-free monthly stipend of approximately $1500. Since all your bills are covered, you can save this amount ($18,000 per year)
Some details about your role:
Provide daily support with home skills (e.g. cooking, budgeting, planning activities, housekeeping, pet-care, etc.)
Facilitate community participation (when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted), e.g. part-time employment, sports, culture, volunteering etc.)
Ensure medical/safety care plans are followed (e.g. medication is taken, going to appointments)
These activities are expected to take up approximately 20-25 hours per week, mostly in the morning and evening, i.e. help with morning routines, packing lunches, getting groceries, preparing evening meals, overseeing household chores, walking the dog, etc)
You will have negotiated days, evenings and occasional weekends off as well as vacation time off and funded respite time. Each young adult spends time with their families throughout the week, so there is lots of time off for you to relax built into this job. Your schedule will be pre-arranged by mutual agreement with the care societies/families and remains negotiable and flexible as things come up. It is possible to work at a part-time job as long as you are available in the mornings and evening meal-times and do not plan to work more than 15-20 hours per week. It is also possible to take classes and study in this position. You may also work from home (i.e. a job you do online) as long as the schedule is somewhat flexible. As long as appropriate COVID-19 precautions are taken, you can socialize and participate in your regular faith and community activities while doing this role.
This position would be a good fit for someone who loves people and dogs, wishes to work in the caregiving sphere, has a lot of energy, patience, and a great sense of humour. You must be willing to work closely with the young adults’ family members and to support their established, structured routines and to help them thrive in their community.
