Simpson Ranch Job Description for a Couple
Simpson Ranching is seeking a couple of self-motivated reliable people to provide ranching and domestic services to the family. Both of you would join our team on our 1,000 Head Cattle Ranch in the Alberta Foothills and Mixed Grain Farm. Our calving season begins mid February.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ranch duties could include:
Conducting all duties in a safe manner, as per the SRL Environmental, Health and Safety Manual.
Operate and maintain equipment, greasing, oil/fluid checks with every use, minor repairs as necessary, servicing and record keeping.
Perform all duties associated with general maintenance of the grounds, including grass cutting, fence maintenance and other duties as required.
Carry out other duties including but not limited to; salt/mineral/oiler/creep feeder upkeep and transport, cleaning barns, post mortems, moving cattle, set up and tear down of livestock handling systems, repairs or replacement of barb wire/page wire/corral fences, install, maintain and relocate electric fencing, yard work, repairs and maintenance of to water systems, and shoveling snow.
Keep all areas of the Ranch clean and in good repair.
All duties required to keep the Ranch to the standards set by Management, including all other duties as required by management.
Qualifications
To be successful you will (both) have the following qualifications and experience:
Mechanical ability for servicing ranch and/or farm equipment
Able to operate farming and/or ranch related equipment (tractors etc)
Able to build and/or fix wood, barbed and page wire fences/corrals
Able to assist with the farm division when needed
Willingly operate a lawn mower, weed whacker, pressure washer, post pounder and any other implements/tools required
Valid Class 5 Driver's License with clean drivers abstract in addition to having your own vehicle
Must be willing to put in long hours when required
Must be reliable and trustworthy with a good old fashion work ethic
Work environment is focused safety orientated but also relaxed and positive
Physically fit and able to carry and handle 100 pound newborn calves
Previous experience with riding horses is considered an asset
Confidence in ability to work independently
The ability to read write and speak English.
The domestic side of the job(s) would include the following:
House cleaning
Some cooking for the ranch crew
Gardening, planting, weeding, watering etc.
General maintenance
Snow removal and grass cutting
General errands, picking up groceries, dropping and picking things up
Driving
Painting fences etc.
On-site accommodation is provided as a part of this job. Salary is negotiable. A family would be welcome. As we are in a rural area there is a school bus system to get the kids to school.
