Aftee moving to Canada
canada2022 @ Microsoft
Wanted to jot down my experience. I was in US for a long time and moved to Canada last year. Total household comp in US vs Canada, dropped significantly (40% drop). The drop in TC of household is significant. I was very hesitant to move to Canada due to this salary drop.
Still we saw improvements in our life. Major savings came from daycare. Its less than 800 CAD here compared to US where I was paying more than 2k USD. Quality of day are is pretty good I would say so no compromise as such.
Second, we started making and eating a lot
at home. May be once a week we go out. We both think we dont miss eating out at all now. Eating at home feels like more fullfiling + we know what stuff we are putting in our body.
Third. We havent used any external help as such since we have been here. Mostly Its all DIY and I feel great about it somehow. My h activeness level has significantly improved. I am just ok cleaning my house, car etc etc whereas I used to rely on help earlier.
What I learnt is that throwing money to solve problems is not always the solution. Taking a step back and simplifying ur life could be a much better idea. There is no point rushing after money only to spend it on things that doesnt matter. Needless to say to make more money u have to take
more responsibilities at work and be plugged. Now since I have stopped running after money, I am at peace. I go to gym, play cricket and spend good time with family and feel much more contented and happy. Thats it !
