Tell Your MP about the Immigration Needs of Ukrainians

RCIC-UA is encouraging you to email or call your Member of Parliament (MP) and Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) or Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) to urge them to support the immigration opportunities for Ukrainians.
As of January 27, 2024, 221,231 Ukrainians and their family members have arrived in Canada under the CUAET program. According to recent polls, about 92% of these individuals seek ways to remain in Canada permanently. Many of the CUAET visa holders will have their temporary status expire in 2025. The current state of the Russian War in Ukraine does not indicate Ukrainians will be able to return to their homes next year upon the expiration of their temporary status in Canada. While the majority of these individuals are working in Canada, they have limited immigration prospects due to the high bar that the Express Entry system sets for immigrants, as well as the low numbers of nominations available under Provincial Nominee Programs.

Dear [Member of Parliament’s Name],
On this solemn day, marking the second anniversary of the war in Ukraine, I urge you to stand with Ukraine and support immigration opportunities for those who established themselves in Canada upon fleeing the war in Ukraine. For many of those, there is no way back to Ukraine, but they have also significantly contributed to the prosperity of our nation.
We kindly request your support in advocating for additional pathways to permanent residency for Ukrainian nationals, including an increase in the number of nominations issued by the provinces. Recognizing the contributions those newcomers have made to our communities, it is in the best interest of Canada to provide them with the opportunity for stable, long-term settlement.
Furthermore, we want to highlight the potential repercussions of asking many established individuals to leave Canada. Such a move could create a substantial workforce gap for Canadian businesses, hindering economic growth and stability.
As your constituent, I urge you to stand with Ukraine. Your support will not only honour the humanitarian values Canada holds dear but also reinforce these individuals’ positive impact on our nation.
Sincerely,
[Your Name] [Your Address]
