Extract from Ops Manual Animals Passing through Great Britain 1. Animals from abroad passing through GB en-route for a destination overseas fall into two categories: · animals in transit - landing at one port or airport and departing from another · transhipment animals - landing at and departing from the same port or airport. topIn-transit Movements 1. A Licence (ID15A) is required for animals landing at one port or airport and being re-exported from another. The conditions of issue are the same as those for a normal import licence. 2. The animal can land at a designated port or airport only. In exceptional circumstances the animal may be re-exported from any port or airport. If the port or airport of re-export is not designated, the Import Team, CITC will make arrangements to ensure adequate security. This can involve the local VHoFD/VLS/VLW arranging supervision at the port or airport. 3. Authorised carrying agents should always undertake movement of animals via road or railway between ports. 4. Transiting animals can be kept at facilities at ports or airports for up to 48 hours. If animals need to be detained for longer than 48 hours, they must be moved to an authorised quarantine premises. topTranshipment Movements   1. Transhipped animals do not need a licence to land in GB provided that the shipping company have made arrangements for the onward journey within 48 hours of arrival, from the same designated port or airport. 2. If the stay at the port or airport is less than four hours, the animal can stay with the person responsible, isolated from other animals other than those it is being transported with. 3. If the animal will be at the port or airport for more than four hours but less than 48 hours, the animal needs to be detained at an approved holding facility. 4. Transhipped animals do not require a licence, and the conditions above do not apply. Some airlines have accepted the IATA recommendation that all animals being carried by air should travel as manifested freight. 5. Transhipped animals must be securely crated before landing in GB, i.e., before it is unloaded from the vessel or aircraft.   If you have any further questions regarding pet travel, please get in touch.
