Mother's Day |День Матері | Fête des mères
On Mothers Day, the hearts of the Ukrainian Canadian community are with all the mothers of Ukraine. There is nobody, for whom the horrors of war are worse than for mothers. A mother sends her son and daughter to fight, not knowing if he or she will ever come home. A mother does everything possible and impossible to protect her child from pain. A mother buries her child, who gave their life for Ukraine’s freedom.
But from the courage and determination of Ukrainian mothers and grandmothers – come the courage and determination of the Ukrainian people. It is the Ukrainian mother who raised the soldier who bravely defends the homeland. It is the Ukrainian mother who raised the volunteer, who makes sure the soldier has everything he or she needs. It is the Ukrainian mother who raised the doctor, who treats the wounded Ukrainian soldier under Russian bombardments and shelling. It is the Ukrainian mother and grandmother who sowed in the soul of every Ukrainian around the world – a nation of 60 million – strength, freedom, dignity and honour.
Today, standing shoulder to shoulder with the Ukrainian people, we honour all Ukrainian mothers – whose courage and resolve instill in us all the faith and certainty in Ukraine’s victory over the Russian invaders.
