On September 28, 2017 Selkirk Conservation Officers received information through the Turn In Poachers (TIP Line) regarding a male subject in possession of more fish than permitted by regulation.
The caller told officers that he had been fishing on the evening of September 27 and had seen the same man retaining an over limit of sauger. He had reported the offence through the TIP Line but by the time a Conservation Officer arrived, the offender had already left.
The caller said the man would catch several fish then walk up to his vehicle, empty his cooler, and continue fishing. A description of the man and his vehicle were provided to officers who arrived shortly afterwards and began observing his fishing activity.
An officer approached the man and conducted an inspection. The man had a cooler containing 4 sauger fish beside him. Further investigation revealed a cardboard box in the subject's vehicle contained 15 whole sauger.
The subject was in possession of 19 sauger which is 15 over his limit of 4.
A guilty plea in Provincial court resulted in fines and restitution totalling $1,107.00.
