Animal Products and Animal By-Products
The importation of fresh, dried, or canned meats or meat products is generally not allowed from most foreign countries into the United States. This includes products that have been prepared with meat. However, currently poultry, which has proof of origin from certain regions of Canada may be admissible. These products must still be declared and are subject to inspection. The regulations on importing meat and meat products change frequently because they are based on disease outbreaks in different areas of the world. Note: VS continues to restrict the importation of poultry, commercial birds, ratites, avian hatching eggs, unprocessed avian products and byproducts, and certain fresh poultry products originating from or transiting 1 zone in Alberta (PCZ-93) and 1 zone in British Columbia (PCZ-189). Importation of any of these commodities originating from or transiting a restricted zone is prohibited, based on the diagnosis of HPAI in domestic birds
