Attention‼️: Warning about free 14-day hotel stays in Toronto and Ottawa
In recent weeks, CUIAS Immigrant Services has been receiving an extraordinary number of calls and inquiries about short-term hotel accommodations from people who come to Ontario through the CUAET program and find themselves in a housing crisis after arriving in Canada.
250 Ukrainians arrive in Toronto through the CUAET program every day, and throughout the month of March we expect a significant increase in the flow of people. We would like to remind you to please plan your journey to Canada in advance, including accommodation once you arrive.
Ukrainian citizens and their family members often report that they did not search for housing before arriving in Canada, because they expected to stay in a hotel provided by the Canadian Government for 14 days for free, but that all the rooms were already occupied. As the Government is providing this assistance on an as-needed, urgent basis, it is difficult to predict exact numbers so you should make every effort to arrange accommodations in advance.
The Government of Canada provides temporary accommodations for up to 14 days for Ukrainians and their family members arriving under the CUAET program who have nowhere else to stay. This emergency housing is not guaranteed and is intended to help those who have no other options. These temporary accommodations offer a limited number of rooms and in emergency situations, priority will be given to women with kids, elderly people, people with disabilities, etc.
We recommend that you check all the information on the official website of the Government of Canada www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/ukraine-measures/cuaet.html .
