Dear...
Thank you for your correspondence of April 28, 2021, addressed to the Honourable Marco E.L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, regarding your wish to travel to Canada. I have been asked to respond to your concerns.
I appreciate you sharing the circumstances that prompted you to write. The Government of Canada continues to update information about travel restrictions put in place to stem the spread of COVID-19. New restrictions or exemptions may come into effect with little warning.
Currently, applicants whose application for permanent residence was approved before March 18, 2020, but who have not travelled to Canada yet, are exempt from the travel restrictions.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada clients outside Canada whose application for permanent residence was approved after March 18, 2020, are encouraged to monitor the How the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is affecting immigration, refugees, citizenship and passport services web page for up-to-date information related to their application or situation.
Immigration continues to be a priority for the Government as Canada works to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Moving forward, the Government will ensure that any easing of travel restrictions will be balanced, and done in a phased manner, to ensure that the health and safety of Canadians is protected.
Travellers should not make any travel plans until they have obtained all necessary documentation to qualify to come to Canada, and can provide evidence that they are exempt from travel restrictions.
Please be advised that the assessment pertaining to travel is done by the airline, in collaboration with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), in accordance with the emergency orders under the Quarantine Act. Eligible applicants can also contact the CBSA for more information.
Thank you for writing. I regret that a more favourable response cannot be provided at this time.
Sincerely,
