The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends that children receive a complete eye examination by an optometrist every 12 months after starting school. Surprisingly, one in three children entering school have a vision disorder. Many of these children accept poor vision and other eye problems because they are unaware that their vision is not the same as that of other children.
As part of our commitment to provide the best opportunities for students to achieve success, Pembina Trails is pleased to announce our continuing partnership with the Mobile VisionCare Clinic (MVCC) to provide complete vision care for all students at your child(ren)’s school.
Mobile Vision Care Clinic will be visiting FORT RICHMOND COLLEGIATE on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
A team of an optometrist, a licensed optician and optometric assistants will attend your child’s school to provide a comprehensive eye exam. During the eye exam, it may be determined that dilation is required. This procedure is rarely required but is explained in the attached flyer. Mobile Vision Care Clinic insert.pdf
Manitoba Health covers the cost of children’s eye exams and direct billing will be done by the Mobile Vision Care Clinic staff. For some students, if eyeglasses are required, the eyeglasses may be covered through third party insurance such as Employment Income Assistance (EIA), Non-Insured Health Benefits (Status) or a third-party insurance company. Funds are also being donated and raised for families who don’t have third-party coverage and are not able to afford the cost of prescription eyeglasses.
To have your child’s eyes examined by the optometrist, you are required to complete the attached Eye Examination Consent Form. Consent covers eye examinations (covered by Manitoba Health) for yourchild while their Pembina Trails registration is current. Please complete one form per child, in full, and return it to the school immediately. EYE EXAMINATION CONSENT FORM.docx

Please complete section C of the consent form in case it is determined that your child requires eyeglasses. If Mobile Vision Care Clinic is the provider of the eyeglasses, eyeglass delivery will occur at your child’s school approximately 3 weeks after the eye examination. Additionally, if your child is identified as having a visual impairment, he or she will be referred to the appropriate specialist.
