Here’s some math. Levels FYI says entry level SWE at amazon makes 170/yr. Married junior SWE couple will thus make 340k/yr, or 28000/mo. Keep in mind this is basically a lower bound for what a typical family would make in HCOL.
Even this junior eng couple could easily afford a 14k/mo mortgage (not even half the salary), which is a 2M house at today’s rates. Your payment will even go down further once you refinance in a year or two.
2M buys you a VERY nice house. If even junior engineer can afford this. What are you complaining about. For the typical senior eng couple the price is basically a joke.
