Canada's temporary public policy to exempt certain immigrants from an immigration medical exam (IME) within five years is in place until October 5, 2029. This policy applies to low-risk applicants who:
Completed an IME within the last five years
Have no significant health issues
Are applying for permanent residence, work permits, or family reunification
Already live in Canada
Reported to public health authorities for monitoring
Provided the unique medical identifier number from their previous IME
This policy helps speed up immigration applications and reduce costs. Applicants can save up to $500 in medical fees.
To be exempt, applicants must include the IME number from their previous IME in their current application.
The physical exam for an IME includes:
Weight and height measurement
Hearing and vision tests
Blood pressure check
Heart and lung auscultation
Abdominal examination
Limb movement assessment
Skin condition check
You must find a panel physician approved by Canada to do the medical exam. Your own doctor cannot do the exam
