Stolen Vehicle – Arrests: C24- 214712
On September 14, 2024, at 7:45 pm, a citizen observed a male and female stealing his 2023 Ford F150 in the 800 block of Dudley Ave. Along with a friend, he approached the vehicle, entered the box of the truck and phoned 911.
The two youth suspects fled the area at a high rate of speed, with the owner and his friend still in the box of the truck.
Police monitored the incident and began converging on the area based on the real-time directions being provided by the owner from within the back of the truck. Efforts to disembark from the box of the truck were not successful due to the erratic driving and extreme rates of speed.
Police members attempted to utilize a tire deflation device in the vicinity of Brandon Ave and Osborne St. At this time, the suspect vehicle continued westbound in the area of Brandon Ave at a high rate of speed, striking an unmarked WPS canine unit that was traveling northbound on Osborne St.
The force of the collision resulted in the owner and his friend being ejected from the box of the truck. Both sustained serious injuries and were later conveyed and admitted to hospital.
The collision also injured the lone male Police canine member, who was treated and released from hospital for injuries. The Police Service Dog, also traveling in the canine unit, was not injured.
The two youth suspects were arrested near the scene of the collision. Both suspects sustained non-serious injuries and were treated and released from hospital.
The Traffic Division commenced the initial investigation in conjunction with the Major Crimes Unit. It was later learned that both victims and the accused were previously known to one another.
A 17-year-old youth male from Winnipeg is charged with the following:
• Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance – Cause Bodily Harm x 2
• Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident Knowing That or Reckless as to Whether They Were Involved in an Accident – Cause Bodily Harm
• Cause Bodily Harm by Criminal Negligence x 2
• Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both
• Fail or Refuse to Comply with Demand Knowing That or Reckless as to Whether They Were Involved in an Accident – Cause Bodily Harm
• Theft Over $5,000
• Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking
• Drive Without Valid Driver’s Licence
He was detained in custody.
A 15-year-old youth female from Winnipeg is charged with the following:
• Theft Over $5,000.
She was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
